Competition in the pool at Paris 2024 is nearing its conclusion, with the Aussie Sharks and Aussie Stingers continuing to make us proud of the World Stage.
In a dominant display of prowess, the Australian Women’s Water Polo Team, including Western Australian athletes Zoe Arancini and Genevieve Longman, are through to the Gold medal game against Spain tomorrow night.
Undefeated throughout the tournament, the Aussie Stingers are on track to win their first Olympic gold medal in 24 years after defeating the United States 14-13 in a semi-final penalty shootout.
They will play the world number one side at 9:35pm AWST on Saturday 10 August. Join us in cheering the team on by tuning in to 9Now tomorrow night!
After a fantastic run that saw them beat Water Polo powerhouses such as Serbia and Hungary, the Aussie Sharks ultimately went down in a grueling quarter-final shootout to the USA.
The Aussies took just one minute 34 seconds to get the first goal of the game, after a turn over from their opponents. A stunning shot from Luke Pavillard found the back of the goal, however, the Americans were quick to respond, levelling the match 1-1.
This back and forth would be the story of the match, the Aussies fighting with everything they had to keep the Americans at bay.
The Aussie Sharks will now play in a Classification match against Greece for 5th-8th place at midnight tonight.
