With the first week of competition at Paris 2024 nearly over, our Aussie Sharks and Aussie Stingers have set themselves up for success at the Games.

The Australian Women’s Water Polo Team, including Western Australian athletes Zoe Arancini and Genevieve Longman, made a perfect start to their Paris Olympic campaign last Friday night, recording a 7-5 win over China.

The Aussie Stingers continued their winning streak a few nights ago when they played Netherlands at the Paris Aquatic Centre, with Longman playing a crucial role in the win as the game went to penalties. Locked at 7-7 at full time, the Aussie Stingers ultimately won 15-14.

The Aussie Stingers will play their third pool game this evening against Canada at 8pm AWST.

The Aussie Sharks have also made a strong start to their Paris 2024 campaign despite going down in their first match to Spain.

It was a battle from start to finish for the Aussie Sharks, with six players making their Olympic debut including Western Australian players Luke Pavillard and John Hedges. The Sharks went down to Spain 5-9.

Not to be held down for long, the Aussie Sharks fought back with a vengeance, defeating two-time reigning Olympic champions, Serbia 8-3.

Four goals to Luke Pavillard, including an opening half hat-trick, helped to solidify the teams performance, putting them back on track to make the Olympic quarter finals for the first time since London 2012.

Fresh from their victory over Serbia, the Sharks claimed a 9-8 victory over the host side France last night.

They led from the opening minutes of their match with France, and despite the onslaught by their determined opponents and a vocal home crowd, the Sharks never faltered, winning each quarter (0-1, 3-4, 5-7, 8-9).
