WITH the race for finals positions heating up in the Men’s A-Grade competition, there were big Round 8 wins on Saturday for the Port Colts and Triton while South Fremantle Bloods just remained undefeated while it was a tight win too for UWA Flotsam.
There are now just two rounds remaining in the regular season of the Men’s A-Grade competition before the semi finals will determine who takes part in the Grand Finals for 2020 on Saturday December 12.
The Round 8 action on Saturday got underway at HBF Stadium’s Outdoor Pool with Triton defeating UWA Rangers 21-4 while UWA Flotsam also prevailed 12-10 against UWA City Beach.
The other two matches took place at Bicton Pool with a thriller between South Fremantle and the Melville Sharks with the Bloods narrowly prevailing 8-7 to remain undefeated on the season with two rounds remaining.
The other match at Bicton Pool saw the Port Colts record a 22-5 victory against Dolphins.
The results after Round 8 in the Men’s A-Grade competition mean that in the Fremantle Conference, the South Fremantle Bloods remain clear on top at 8-0. The Port Colts are second at 6-2 ahead of Melville Sharks (3-5) and Dolphins (1-7).
Then in the UWA Conference, it’s UWA Flotsam still on top with a 6-2 record to be just ahead of Triton at 5-3. UWA City Beach has a 2-6 record and UWA Rangers 1-7.
Following eight rounds in the Men’s A-Grade competition, it’s Luke Pavillard from the South Fremantle Bloods who remains the leading scorer with 33 goals so far.
Next best German powerhouse Florian Naroska from Triton with 25 goals ahead of Nick Elphick (Bloods) 23, Cody Smith (Port Colts) 23, Jeremy Carbone (Dolphins) 22, Matt Oberman (Triton) 18, Tim Putt (Triton) 17, Luca Altieri (Port Colts) 17 and Harry Bruce (Port Colts) 17.
First up in Round 8 of the Men’s A-Grade competition was at HBF Stadium with UWA Rangers hosting Triton.
It turned out to be a commanding 21-4 victory for Triton with German Olympian Florian Naroska scoring six goals, Lewis Putt five and Gabriel Tebar two. Riley Childs scored three of the four goals for Rangers.
Also at HBF Stadium’s Outdoor Pool, two UWA teams locked horns with Flotsam playing City Beach.
It ended up a tremendous contest too with Flotsam narrowly winning 12-10 despite four goals from Lachie Emanuel and two for Sam Rowbottam for City Beach.
Then at Bicton Pool, the stage was set for a tantalising match up between two Melville teams with Applecross playing the Sharks.
It was another tight affair with the Bloods only just managing to remain undefeated with the 8-7 victory.
Luke Pavillard scored another three goals for South Fremantle and Jordan Lake two while Petar Tomasevic scored three times for the Sharks.
Then lastly was also at Bicton Pool with the Port Colts taking on Dolphins.
The Colts scored the only goal of the first quarter thanks to Davis Verboon before then scoring three quickly to start the second term from Drew Verboon, Clancy Neesham and Cody Smith.
Dolphins did get on the board courtesy of Jeremy Carbone but by half-time it was the Port Colts in control leading 9-3.
The Colts then came out with three quick goals to start the second half again from Neesham, Smith and Smith again to be up 12-3, and with seven goals to one in the third quarter and six to one in the fourth that turned into a 22-5 victory.
Cody Smith had a day out for the Port Colts with nine goals including seven of those in the second half. Sam Quinn and Clancy Neesham also scored three goals apiece, and Davis Verboon, Harry Bruce and Drew Verboon two.
Jeremy Carbone and Chris Reynolds scored two goals each for Dolphins.
Cody Smith received the three votes, Marko Draksimovic two and Harry Bruce one.
Now Round 9 of the Men’s A-Grade competition takes place this Saturday with three games at HBF Stadium with UWA Flotsam playing Port Colts, UWA City Beach facing Dolphins and UWA Rangers taking on South Fremantle Bloods.
The other match up will take place at Beatty Park between Triton and Melville Sharks.
