
WITH Zoe Arancini continuing to lead the way, Applecross kept winning on Saturday to remain unbeaten in the Women’s A-Grade competition for 2020 while the Melville Marlins also kept their winning form going.
Following a week’s break after the opening five rounds of the A-Grade competition for 2020, the action resumed on Saturday afternoon with all four women’s teams in action at Bicton Pool.
Those results saw the Melville Marlins take away a 12-7 victory against Triton while Applecross also defeated UWA City Beach 13-4.
Those results mean that following six rounds of the Women’s A-Grade competition, it’s Applecross remaining undefeated having won all six of their matches.
Melville Marlins sit in second place with a 4-2 record now after six rounds with Triton holding a 2-4 record and then there is UWA City Beach at 0-6.
There continue to be some impressive individual performers as well and from a scoring point of view, it’s Zoe Arancini from Applecross leading the way with 23 goals so far.
Then there is Luci Marsh (Marlins) with 14 goals, Dayna O’Leary (Triton) 14, Jess Zimmerman (Applecross) 13, Glencora McGhie (Applecross) 13, Rebecca Liddle (UWA City Beach) 12, Madeleine Quinn (Marlins) 11 and Kelly Parks (Applecross) 10.
The Round 6 action began at Bicton Pool on Saturday afternoon with the Marlins hosting Triton as the competition resumed after the weekend off.
Despite a responding Triton goal to Cathryn Earl, the Marlins got on top in the opening quarter thanks to goals from Megan Cranley, Abbey Grosse and Luci Marsh.
But Triton pulled back in the second term with the opening two goals through Dayna O’Leary to level scores up before Melville ended the opening half with goals to Marsh and Grosse to be up 5-3 by the change of ends.
The Marlins then scored first in the third period through Grosse to lead by four but by three quarter-time Triton had given themselves a chance trailing by just two following scores from O’Leary and Annika Hart.
But it would be all the Marlins in the fourth quarter as they scored the only three goals to come away with the 12-7 victory.
Luci Marsh ended the afternoon with five goals for the Marlins with Abbey Grosse, Chloe Nella and Megan Cranley all adding two apiece. Dayna O’Leary scored three goals for Triton and Tia Nelson two.
At the end of the game, Luci Marsh received the three votes, Dayna O’Leary two and Tia Nelson one.
The other game was also at Bicton Pool and ended up with a 13-4 victory for Applecross against UWA City Beach.
Zoe Arancini scored another four goals for Applecross with Jess Zimmerman adding three, Ebony Brown two and Rose Neesham two. Rebecca Liddle scored two of the four goals for UWA.
Round 7 of the Women’s A-Grade competition sees both match ups on Saturday afternoon take place at different venues.
The action gets underway at HBF Stadium at 1.15pm with UWA City Beach playing Triton.
Then at Bicton Pool at 3.45pm, it’s the Melville Marlins taking on Applecross.
