THE Women’s Premier League teams did some fine tuning for the finals with the last of the Cross Conference action on Saturday with Applecross and the Melville Marlins now left to decide the winners of the Fremantle Conference, and Triton and the UWA Rangers in the UWA Conference.
The fourth and last round of the Cross Conference matches for the 2017-18 season before the Grand Final with Applecross defeating Triton 11-8 at Beatty Park, and at Bicton Pool Melville Marlins defeating UWA City Beach 22-5 and UWA Rangers downing North Coast Phoenix 18-9.
That means that UWA Rangers (4-0) went through undefeated in Cross Conference matches while the Melville Marlins, North Coast Phoenix and Applecross were all 2-1. Triton and UWA City Beach finished at 1-3 and Dolphins 0-3.
But what really mattered was the standings in their own conferences with the top two teams advancing to this weekend’s conference deciders.
Fremantle Conference ended up with Applecross on top with seven wins, three losses and two draws.
The Melville Marlins had the same record to finish just ahead of the North Coast Phoenix who had seven wins, a draw and four defeats. Dolphins had 11 losses and a draw.
And in the UWA Conference, Triton finished on top with a 6-2 record ahead of the UWA Rangers 5-3. UWA City Beach brought up the field with one win and seven losses.
That all means that now the winners from the Fremantle and UWA Conferences will be determined this weekend with the winners of those matches to then go through to the Grand Final the following Sunday.
The top two teams from each conference will play one another this weekend starting on Saturday afternoon at HBF Stadium from 4.15pm with the UWA Rangers taking on Triton to determine the winners from the UWA Conference
Then on Sunday at Bicton Pool from 6.30pm, it will be Applecross taking on the Melville Marlins to determine the Fremantle Conference winners.
Going back to last Saturday’s last Cross Conference action, Applecross beat Triton 11-8 at Beatty Park with Lara Zimmerman scoring four goals for the winners and Kelly Parks four.
The Melville Marlins won big 22-5 over UWA City Beach with Erin Redbond scoring seven goals, Madeleine Quinn six, Pia Rodgers four and Luci Marsh three. Glenda Morgan scored twice for UWA City Beach as did Audrey Poor.
Then also at Bicton Pool, UWA Rangers beat North Coast Phoenix 18-9 with Alyssa Diacono scoring five times for Rangers, Dayna O’Leary three, Madi Rigo three, Lexi Woolley two, Michelle Martinelli two and Holly Rose two.
