THE last regular season action in the Men’s Premier League for 2017-18 took place on Saturday leading into the finals this weekend with the Rangers and Flotsam to determine the winners of the UWA Conference and the Port Colts and South Fremantle Bloods to do the same in the Fremantle Conference.

Last Saturday saw the fourth and final round of the Cross Conference action for the season pitting teams from the Fremantle UWA Conferences against one another for the last time until the Grand Final.

The combatants of the Grand Final will be determined this weekend but firstly, there was the Cross Conference action last Saturday.

That saw the Melville Sharks defeat Triton 13-12 and also at Beatty Park, Port Colts beat UWA Rangers 20-10.

Then at Bicton Pool, South Fremantle Bloods beat UWA Flotsam 18-3 and UWA City Beach defeated Dolphins 7-6.

That left Port Colts and Melville Sharks both unbeaten in Cross Conference matches after four games. South Fremantle Bloods finished with three wins and a draw.

UWA Rangers had a win, a draw and two losses while Triton finished at 1-3, UWA Flotsam 1-3 and UWA City Beach 1-3. Dolphins were winless in four attempts.

But what really mattered was where the teams finished in their respective conferences with the top two teams in each to play this weekend to set up the Cross Conference Grand Final on Sunday March 25.

In the Fremantle Conference, Port Colts finished on top with an 8-4 record to be just ahead of the South Fremantle Bloods who were also 8-4.

Melville Sharks were further back at 5-7 with Dolphins finishing with 3-9.

And in the UWA Conference, the Rangers finished on top at 8-4 ahead of Flotsam who were 7-5.

Triton were back at 6-6 with UWA City Beach improving as the season went on to finish with three wins and nine losses.

That all sets up the conference finals this weekend to determine the winners from Fremantle and UWA who will then meet in the Grand Final the following Sunday.

On Saturday afternoon at HBF Stadium the UWA Conference will be decided when Rangers play Flotsam for a place in the Grand Final. That contest will take place at 1.15pm.

Then this Sunday the Fremantle Conference will be determined at 4pm when the Port Colts and South Fremantle Bloods do battle.
