Round 1 Men’s Premier League Preview

THE new-look Men’s Premier League season for 2017-18 will begin this Saturday with two matches from the Fremantle Conference and two from the UWA Conference at Bicton Pool and HBF Stadium respectively.

The Men’s Premier League season of 2016 wrapped up pre-Christmas with the UWA City Beach Bears beating the Melville Sharks in the grand final at Bicton Pool.

But then when the National Water Polo League season began in January, the UWA and Fremantle players turned their focus to that while the rest of the Premier League players took part in a Challenge Cup campaign.

It was decided a review into the Premier League was required by Water Polo WA and the result has been a two-conference, eight-team competition that begins this Saturday and will conclude in March.

Round 1 matches from the Fremantle Conference take place this Saturday at Bicton Pool with the Melville Sharks taking on the Dolphins while two other Melville-entered teams, the Port Colts and South Fremantle Bloods will also do battle.

The Melville Sharks team will feature the likes of Joel Swift, Nick Redbond, Jake Leavy, James Fannon, Jack Marshall, Jordan Lake and Jacob Jones, and be coached by David Leavy.

The South Fremantle Bloods team will include Ed Slade, Michael Brown, Petar Tomasevic, Nick O’Halloran, Kieran Bayles, Nick Elphick, Scott Chrystal and Will Mackay, and be coached by Rod Brown.

Gerard Neesham will be coach of the Port Colts with that group including the likes of Flynn Mais, Tom Prior, Drew Verboon, Clancy Neesham, Alex Petrov, Luca Altieri, Davis Verboon and Michael Altieri.

Dolphins also have a strong-looking group including Marko Draksimovic, James Beare, Tom Beare, Jeremy Carbone, Harry Paterson, Tim Bailey, Xandy Buckland, Harry Foley, Adrian Battley, Tibor Seress, Peter Gaunt and Dorab Postmaster.

City Beach will feature the likes of Callum Storey, Byron Kelly, Matthew Murphy, Nick Murphy, Lachlan Emmanuel, Eddie Taranto, Matija Spanja, Aron Kovacs and Oliver Shelldrick.

Flotsam is a City Beach-entered team and will include the likes of Nick Hughes, Andrew Ford, Alex Bogunovich, Fraser Smith, Matthew Hughes and Drew Lilleyman.

Rangers is another City Beach team and will include Harry Konowalous, Will Lantzke, Lachie Vos, Lach Pethick, Tom Powell, Tom Rigoll, Tim Putt and Jed Thompson.

Triton is a standalone team but will be boosted by the presence of Florian Naroska, Gaby Tebar, Brett McGhie, Matt Oberman and Lewis Putt.
