THE South Fremantle Bloods continued their undefeated season in the Men’s A-Grade competition with a win in Round 7 on Saturday against Dolphins while the race beneath them is heating up following wins for Triton, UWA City Beach and Port Colts.

All four matches in Round 7 of the Men’s A-Grade competition all took place on Saturday afternoon once again and as a result, the race is really firing up between the teams from second to sixth in the battle for finals positions.

Two games took place on Saturday at HBF Stadium’s Outdoor Pool with Triton defeating UWA Flotsam 10-3 before two UWA teams locked horns with City Beach beating Rangers 19-10 in an entertaining high-scoring affair.

The other two matches were held at Bicton Pool beginning with the South Fremantle Bloods remaining undefeated by scoring a 19-6 victory against Dolphins.

The other Bicton Pool match up to close the afternoon in the men’s action saw two Melville teams come up against one another. That saw Port Colts defeat the Melville Sharks 12-8.

That all means that after Round 7 in the Men’s A-Grade competition it’s the South Fremantle Bloods still out on top of the table with a perfect 7-0 record.

Beneath them is where it really gets interesting, though, with the UWA Flotsam and Port Colts both sitting on 5-2 records. Triton are only one game further back at 4-3 ahead of the Melville Sharks (3-4), UWA City Beach (2-5), UWA Rangers (1-6) and Dolphins (1-6).

In terms of some of the standout individual performers, Luke Pavillard of the South Fremantle Bloods is the competition’s leading goal scorer after the seven rounds with 30 goals.

The scoring dried up in the second half but Triton cruised to the 10-3 win with Tim Putt scoring three goals, Florian Naroska two and Brett McGhie two.

Brett McGhie was given the three votes, Tim Putt two and Luke Quinlivan one who let in just the three goals for the game.

It was then time for the battle of UWA teams with City Beach taking on Rangers. It was a tight affair early on too with scores tied at 3-3 after the first six minutes before Rangers scored just before the end of the first quarter through Menno Talbot to be up 4-3.

City Beach immediately levelled scores again to start the second quarter with Lachie Emanuel scoring on a penalty. Byron Kelly shot Rangers ahead in response but again City Beach tied things up through Charlie Emanuel.

City Beach built on that momentum with three more goals as well to go up 8-5 and by half-time and the change of ends they still clung to a 9-8 advantage.

That lead soon became 14-8 in the second half following City Beach goals to Andrew Barber, Tyler Fazio, Owen Lilleyman, Ollie Sheldrick, Sheldrick again and Barber with another. Rangers got one back through Ben McCleery but City Beach answered through Taz Williams to be up 15-9 after three.
