WA takes 18’s Nationals Titles in Perth

Finals day at the  for 2016 National Aged Club Championships Boys and Girls in Perth produced very high quality games with exciting finishes. Western Australia took the honours in both the Boys with UWA City Beach Bears defending their 2015 title beating challenger UNSW Wests Magpies (NSW) and in the Girls where the Melville Marlins de-throned the 2015 champions Cronulla Sharks (NSW).

BOYS CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL:

UWA City Beach Bears 16 (T Putt 6, W Lantzke 4, C Kyriakou and C Smith 2, B Fabling and J Thompson 1) def. UNSW Wests Magpies 10 (S Nangle 4, R Martinuzzo 3, C Negus, L Rayner and C Wood 1) Qtr scores: 5-5, 10-6, 14-8, 16-10

GIRLS CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL:

Melville Marlins 11 (B Pensini 5, S Chaves 3, S Pontre 2, E Gunnell 1) def. Cronulla Sharks 8 (B McClean 3, M Williams 2, K Gallaher, B Clark and A Freeman 1) Qtr scores: 2-1, 4-4, 6-7, 11-8

 

In the Bronze medal matches Sydney Northern Beaches Breakers (NSW) beat the Drummoyne Devils (NSW) in the Girls and Melville Sharks (WA) beat Dolphins (WA) in the boys.

The plate finals (5th/6th) were won by Sunshine Coast (QLD) in the boys defeating the top seeded NSW team Hunter Hurricanes and in the girls by Ovens and Murray/ACT (NSW/ACT) who defeated the Sydney University Lions (NSW).

The Bowl finals (8th/9th) saw Drummoyne Devils (NSW) defeat Sydney University Lions (NSW) in the boys and in the girls game Sunshine Coast (QLD) defeat Brisbane Barracudas (QLD)

 

Tournament Awards:

GIRLS MVP: Sofia Chaves, Melville Marlins

BOYS BEST GOALKEEPER: Damien Williams, Melville Sharks

GIRLS BEST GOALKEEPER: Bridget Johnston, Ovens and Murray/ACT
