Tribute to Cole Miller – National Water Polo League

The tragic death of Brisbane Barracudas player Cole Miller has rocked the water polo community right round the country, with an outpouring of sympathies for the Miller family, Cole’s team mates and many friends.

As a mark of respect, the scheduled games for this week’s National Water Polo League (NWPL) for the Brisbane Barracudas and KFC Queensland Breakers have been postponed.

NWPL clubs around the country will also honour Cole at every game across this weekend’s competition with a one-minute silence to be held at the commencement of each game. Additionally, in respect of Cole’s number 10 cap, each number 10 cap will be omitted from the team line up and not be worn by any team at any game over the weekend.

Water Polo Australia CEO Chris Harrison said the tributes by the National Water Polo League clubs was a small way to show support for the Miller family and Cole’s team mates.

“There is not one person in the water polo community who hasn’t been hit hard by the tragic news of Cole’s senseless death. The overwhelming outpouring of grief through social media is evident of just how close the water polo community is and the huge respect held for the Miller family.

“This weekend’s one-minute silence and removal of the #10 cap, Cole’s cap, are just small ways for the NWPL to further demonstrate their support for the Miller’s and the Barracudas,” he said.

Teams have been encouraged to use #NWPL16Cole10 when taking images of the team line ups and images of the #10 cap not in use.
