ROUND 2 of the Men’s Premier League takes place this Saturday with two fascinating contests set for both Bicton Pool and HBF Stadium as part of the Fremantle and UWA Conferences.
The new-look Water Polo WA Premier League got underway last season in strong fashion with the conference system making a good start with four teams each making up for the Fremantle and UWA Conferences.
Now this Saturday is the second round of the inter-conference contests with two Men’s match ups at Bicton Pool and two more at HBF Stadium.
The two Fremantle Conference matches at Bicton Pool begins at 3.30pm with Dolphins playing Port Colts before the South Fremantle Bloods then take on the Melville Sharks.
Then in the UWA Conference games at HBF Stadium, at 2.30pm Triton will play City Beach before at 4pm two more UWA City Beach teams go at it when Flotsam faces the Rangers.
Starting at Bicton Pool, Dolphins and Port Colts are looking for their first wins of the 2017-18 having lost in the opening round last Saturday.
Dolphins went down by three goals to Melville Sharks despite three goals to Tibor Seress and two to Harry Paterson. Port Colts, meanwhile, lost to South Fremantle by six goals despite a team featuring Drew Verboon, Davis Verboon, Tom Prior, Clancy Neesham, Michael Altieri and company.
Neither will want to open the season 0-2 making the stakes high when they hit the pool on Saturday.
Then it will be time for the Bloods to play the Sharks in a contest featuring two teams who scored opening round victories.
South Fremantle were impressive defeating the Port Colts 9-3 with two goals each to Adam Yeates, Will McKay and Nick O’Halloran while Melville defeated Dolphins 11-8. Rio Olympian Joel Swift returned from a shoulder injury with five goals while Jake Leavy and James Fannon added three goals each.
Both teams were tremendous in the opening round and now going 2-0 to start the new season will be a tremendous way for the winner to get things rolling.
Then in the UWA Conference, Triton and City Beach begin men’s proceedings at HBF Stadium in a contest between a winner and loser from the opening round.
Triton began the season with a 10-9 thrilling win against the Rangers with Jayden Horne scoring three goals, and international and national league veterans Florian Naroska and Brett McGhie two each.
Meanwhile, City Beach lost to Flotsam by eight goals with a young team featuring the likes of Sam Rowbottam and Ollie Sheldrick.
Triton will now look to continue its momentum from last week with City Beach out to avoid an 0-2 start.
The second UWA Conference match on Saturday pits Flotsam against Rangers.
The two UWA City Beach teams had contrasting fortunes in the opening round with Flotsam beating City Beach impressively 10-2 with two goals apiece to Henry Brown, Alex Bogunovich, Andrew Ford and Drew Lilleyman.
Meanwhile, Rangers lost a tight one to Triton despite three goals from Tom Rigoll and two to Tom Powell.
It will be another terrific contest on Saturday between two teams featuring plenty of UWA Torpedoes national league stars.
