Freo, UWA gear up for Western Derby II

THIS Saturday will see the UWA Torpedoes and Fremantle do battle in the second Western Derby battles of the 2019 OVO Australian Water Polo League season at HBF Stadium.

Ahead of Perth hosting the FINA Inter-Continental Cup over the next week, the stage will be set by the derby at HBF Stadium on Saturday.

The women’s clash between the Torpedoes and Marlins begins at 2.30pm with the men’s game between UWA and the Mariners to follow from 4.00pm.

Men’s A-Grade– Round 11 Results

SOUTH Fremantle Bloods and Port Colts won their Fremantle Conference Men’s A-Grade matches on Saturday to continue their fight over a Grand Final spot while there were wins in the UWA Conference for UWA Flotsam and Triton.

The two Fremantle Conference match ups took place at Bicton Pool in Round 11 of the Men’s A-Grade on Saturday.

That saw Port Colts defeat Dolphins 12-8 and South Fremantle Bloods prevail 18-9 over the Melville Sharks.

Women’s A-Grade – Round 14 Results

THE Melville Marlins and Applecross took another step towards booking in a Grand Final berth in the Women’s A-Grade competition in Round 14 with victories over UWA City Beach and Triton.

Round 14 in the Women’s A-Grade competition began on Saturday afternoon at Beatty Park with Applecross defeating Triton 12-5.

Then on Sunday at Bicton Pool, the Melville Marlins prevailed 14-8 over UWA City Beach.

Mixed results for WA teams against Balmain

THE winning ways of the Fremantle Marlins and Mariners continued in Round 6 of the OVO Australian Water Polo League while the UWA Torpedoes weren’t quite so lucky playing host to the Balmain Tigers.

For the first time this season an eastern states based team made the trip west for the four games in four days against the two West Australian teams in the competition and it was a mixed visit for Balmain.

Fremantle beats UWA ahead of Balmain visit

COMING off Saturday night’s Western Derbies at Bicton Pool were Fremantle scored two wins over the UWA Torpedoes, both West Australian teams host the Balmain Tigers in Round 6 of the OVO Australian Water Polo League season.

For the first time in 2019, the two WA teams will play host to an interstate visitor over four days with the Balmain Tigers coming to Perth.
