THE Melville Marlins and Applecross took another step towards booking in a Grand Final berth in the Women’s A-Grade competition in Round 14 with victories over UWA City Beach and Triton.
Round 14 in the Women’s A-Grade competition began on Saturday afternoon at Beatty Park with Applecross defeating Triton 12-5.
Then on Sunday at Bicton Pool, the Melville Marlins prevailed 14-8 over UWA City Beach.
Following Round 14 of the Women’s A-Grade competition, the Melville Marlins remain clear on top of the table with 10 wins, a draw and three losses.
Applecross remain in second position with eight wins, a draw and five defeats to sit ahead of UWA City Beach (seven wins, seven losses) and Triton (five wins, nine losses).
The Round 14 action got underway on Saturday at Beatty Park with Triton doing battle with Applecross.
It was a flying start by Applecross who scored six unanswered goals in the first quarter and their lead grew to 7-0 to start the second period.
Triton did get on the board after that with a goal to Victoria Brown. But it didn’t deter Applecross who still led 9-1 by half-time and then 10-2 by three quarter-time before going on to win 12-5.
Fanny Valyi ended up scoring four goals for Applecross with Jessica Zimmerman and Katie Finucane adding two goals apiece.
Annika Hart, Victoria Brown, Dayna O’Leary, Millie Martino and Jamie Oberman scored a goal each for Triton.
Valyi ended up receiving the three votes, Zimmerman two and Oberman one.
Then on Sunday at Bicton Pool, the Marlins ended up leading 4-2 by quarter-time following a first quarter featuring six goals to open the contest.
UWA City Beach responded to draw level in the second quarter with goals to Pippa Pedley, but the Marlins were able to hit back and lead 7-4 by half-time.
UWA City Beach stayed in touch during the third period with both teams scoring two goals before the Marlins pulled away with five goals to two in in the last term to take out the 14-8 victory.
Stella Watson finished up scoring five goals for the Marlins with Pia Rodgers adding three and Madeleine Quinn three.
Pippa Pedley ended up with four goals for UWA City Beach, Alex Massier two and Madi Rigo two.
Watson ended up receiving the three votes, Sam Shead from UWA City Beach two and Pedley one.
