Women’s A-Grade – Round 13 Results

THERE were big wins in Round 13 of the Women’s A-Grade competition with the Melville Marlins beating Triton and Applecross defeating UWA City Beach.

The two games in the Women’s A-Grade competition for Round 13 started on Saturday at Bicton Pool with the Melville Marlins beating Triton 17-2.

Then on Sunday at HBF Stadium, it was Applecross defeating UWA City Beach 12-3.


The standings after 13 rounds of the 2018-19 Women’s A-Grade competition see the Melville Marlins out on top with nine wins, a draw and three losses.

Applecross has moved up to second position with seven wins, a draw and five losses with UWA City Beach just behind with seven wins and six losses while Triton have won five of their 13 matches.

Starting with Saturday’s clash at Bicton Pool, the Marlins made a flying start with three unanswered goals in the opening quarter. The Marlins also added four more goals in the second period to lead Triton 7-0 by half-time with the change of pool ends.

Triton did score first to start the second half thanks to Jess Armstrong. But the Marlins took back over with 10 of the last 11 goals of the match to end up winning 17-2.

Erin Redbond ended up scoring four goals for the Marlins, Madeleine Quinn three, Pia Rodgers three, Caitlin Read two and Megan Cranley two.

Jess Armstrong scored both of Triton’s goals for the afternoon.

Redbond was awarded the three votes, Quinn two and Armstrong one.

Then at HBF Stadium on Sunday, Applecross made a lightning start too against UWA City Beach with five unanswered goals in the first quarter.

Applecross also added another goal in the second term to lead 6-0 by half-time before UWA City Beach got on the board in the third quarter courtesy of Rebecca Liddle.

Applecross took back over to lead 9-1 by the end of the third quarter and then scored another three goals to two from UWA City Beach in the fourth quarter to end up winning 12-3.

Fanny Valyi scored four goals for Applecross with Lara Zimmerman, Brooke Pensini and Kelly Parks all scoring two goals each. Rebecca Liddle scored two of the three goals for UWA City Beach.

Valyi received the three votes, Pensini two and Raney Remme from UWA City Beach one.
