Women’s A-Grade – Round 11 Results

THERE were another two games in the Women’s A-Grade competition on Saturday with wins for the Melville Marlins and Applecross.

The Round 11 Women’s A-Grade action saw the Melville Marlins defeat UWA City Beach 31-1 at Bicton Pool while Applecross beat Triton 14-8 at Beatty Park.

Those results leave it a tight race in the Women’s A-Grade competition following 11 rounds.

The Melville Marlins are on top of the standings with seven wins, three losses and a draw. But they are only just ahead of UWA City Beach (7-4), Applecross (6-4, one draw) and Triton (4-7).


The lone women’s contest on Saturday at Bicton Pool saw the Melville Marlins take on UWA City Beach.

It was quite the emphatic display by the Marlins who scored seven goals to nine in the first quarter, another nine to one in the second, eight to nil in the third and then seven in the last period to come away with the commanding 31-1 victory.

Zoe Arancini had an afternoon out at Bicton Pool scoring 12 goals for Melville. Sarah Leavy added five goals for the Marlins, Pia Rodgers four, Stella Watson three, Brodie Neesham two and Chloe Lake two. UWA City Beach’s lone goal came from Jamie Cannon.

Then at Beatty Park, Triton played Applecross. It was Applecross who made the fast start with the opening three goals in the first quarter courtesy of two from Kelly Parks and another from Sofia Chaves.

Their lead grew to 6-1 in the second quarter with goals to Fanny Valyi, Chaves and Parks in response to Triton getting on the board through Heather Laird.

Applecross still led 7-3 by half-time but Triton weren’t going away and cut Applecross’ lead to 9-6 early in the fourth quarter with a goal to Jessica Armstrong.

But Applecross responded with five of the game’s last seven goals to end up winning 14-8.

Sofia Chaves scored four goals for Applecross, Fanny Valyi three, Kelly Parks three and Claire Rechichi two. Victoria Brown finished with three goals for Triton, Heather Laird two and Jessica Armstrong two.

Valyi received the three votes, Chaves two and Brown one.
