THE final Women’s A-Grade action for 2018 took place on Saturday with a match each at HBF Stadium and Bicton Pool with victories for UWA City Beach and Applecross.
Ahead of a break in the competition over Christmas and New Year, and then right throughout January, the last round of action in the 2018-19 season took place on Saturday.
The last two games in the year saw UWA City Beach beating Triton at HBF Stadium while Applecross defeated Melville Marlins 11-5 at Bicton Pool.
The results leave the Melville Marlins on top of the Women’s A-Grade competition standings with six wins, a draw and a loss.
UWA City Beach is next with five wins and three losses ahead of Applecross (four wins, three losses, one draw) and Triton (three wins, five losses).
The Round 9 Women’s A-Grade competition saw a game at HBF Stadium featuring UWA City Beach and Triton.
Triton scored the only two goals of the first quarter thanks to Dayna O’Leary and Jamie Oberman but UWA City Beach responded with the next three goals through Sam Shead, Madi Rigo and Rebecca Liddle.
By half-time, scores were level at 3-3 but it was all City Beach in the second half as they went on to win 7-5.
Madi Rigo scored three goals for UWA City Beach and Sam Shead two with Dayna O’Leary and Cathryn Earl hitting two apiece for Triton.
Rigo received the three votes, Claire Durston two and Oberman one.
Then at Bicton Pool, the Melville Marlins took on Applecross with Applecross producing a remarkably dominant first half scoring the opening eight goals of the contest before the Marlins scored just before half-time thanks to Pia Rodgers.
Applecross went on to cruise to the 11-5 victory Kelly Parks, Luci Marsh and Fanny Valyi scoring two goals each. Madeleine Quinn scored three times for the Marlins.
Parks finished with the three votes, Valyi the two and Quinn the one.
