ROUND 6 in the Men’s A-Grade competition took place across Bicton Pool and Beatty Park on Saturday with South Fremantle Bloods and Port Colts winning in the Fremantle Conference, and UWA Flotsam and UWA City Beach winning the UWA Conference matches.
There were four games across the day on Saturday in the Men’s A-Grade competition with the South Fremantle Bloods and UWA Flotsam emerging as the leading teams now in the respective conferences.
The Fremantle Conference games at Bicton Pool saw the Port Colts beat the Melville Sharks 9-5 while the South Fremantle Bloods defeated Dolphins 17-9.
The Round 6 matches in the Fremantle Conference left the South Fremantle on top of the standings with five wins and a loss.
That has them remaining ahead of Port Colts (four wins, two losses), Melville Sharks (two wins, three losses, one draw) and Dolphins (one draw, five losses).
Then in the UWA Conference games at Beatty Park, UWA Flotsam beat 8-2 and UWA City Beach prevailed 14-9 over UWA Rangers.
The results leave UWA Flotsam undefeated in the UWA Conference from six games to sit ahead of Triton (3-3), UWA City Beach (3-3) and UWA Rangers (0-6).
Things got underway at Bicton Pool in the Fremantle Conference with the Port Colts taking on the Melville Sharks.
Port Colts scored the game’s first two goals courtesy of Jordan Kremers-Taylor and Tom Prior before the Sharks responded in kind thanks to Harry Bruce and Ollie Chiari.
Things remained tight with Port Colts leading 3-2 at half-time before they pulled away just before three quarter-time when they led 8-4, before going on to win 9-5.
Tom Prior and Clancy Neesham scored three goals apiece for Port Colts while James Fannon scored twice for the Sharks.
Jordan Kremers-Taylor was given the three votes, Fannon two and Tom Prior one.
The other Fremantle Conference at Bicton Pool pitted the undefeated Bloods against the winless Dolphins.
South Fremantle ensured things would stay that way when they hit the opening five goals in the first quarter. They went on to lead 8-4 by half-time, 11-6 at three quarter-time and 17-9 at the end of the contest.
Cody Smith finished with seven goals for the Bloods, Nick O’Halloran three, Christian Hoad two and Petar Tomasevic two. Jeremy Carbone scored three of the nine goals for Dolphins.
South Fremantle’s Alastair Bruce received the three votes, Carbone the two and Tex Sjerp one.
Then in the UWA Conference at Beatty Park, the action began in the Men’s A-Grade competition with Triton playing UWA Flotsam.
Flotsam came away with the 8-2 victory with three goals each to Tom Powell and Gaelan Patterson, and two to Taz Williams. Triton’s goals came from Hamish St George and Matt Oberman.
The second game then saw UWA City Beach and UWA Rangers do battle, with City Beach ending up prevailing 14-9.
Hamish White hit three goals for City Beach with Byron Kelly, Sam Rowbottam, Matt Murphy and Ollie Sheldrick all scoring twice.
Menno Talbot scored four goals for Rangers and Andrew Barber two.
