THINGS are really tightening up in the Water Polo WA Women’s A-Grade competition following Round 6 victories on Saturday for the Melville Marlins and UWA City Beach.
Only one win now separates the four teams that are still competing in the Women’s A-Grade competition for the 2018-19 season following the results highlighting the competitive of the league.
The Round 6 action began on Saturday at Beatty Park with UWA City Beach defeating Triton 8-4 before at Bicton Pool later that afternoon, the Melville Marlins beat Applecross 13-7.
The Round 6 results leave the Melville Marlins on top of the standings with four wins, a draw and a loss to be just ahead of UWA City Beach who have four wins and two losses from the opening six matches.
Applecross are not far back with three wins, a draw and two defeats while Triton are still right in the mix with three wins and three draws.
Round 6 began at Beatty Park with UWA City Beach playing Triton with both teams out to record their fourth win of the 2018-19 season to date.
Both teams traded goals in the opening four minutes before UWA City Beach took a 3-2 advantage into quarter-time thanks to a goal from Madi Rigo.
Their lead then extended to 4-2 with a goal midway through the second quarter to Tayla Walsh before Triton scored last in the first half courtesy of Jamie Oberman.
But City Beach pulled away again to start the second half with the first four goals to lead 8-3 and end up winning 8-4.
Tayla Walsh scored three goals for UWA City Beach and Madi Rigo while Jamie Oberman scored twice for Triton.
Walsh received the three votes, Oberman two and UWA City Beach ‘keeper Tess Hosking one.
Then at Bicton Pool, Applecross and Melville Marlins did battle in another contest that saw two teams trying to find their fourth win of the season.
Scores were locked at 3-3 by quarter-time before the Marlins began to pull away leading into half-time where they led 6-4. That grew to 8-4 by three quarter-time and they went on to win 13-7 after scoring five goals to three in a high-scoring fourth period.
Erin Redbond scored four goals for the Marlins, Madeleine Quinn three, Chloe Nella three and Caitlin Read two.
Redbond received the three votes, Emma Thillainath two and Quinn one.
