THERE were big wins in the Women’s A-Grade competition on Saturday for Applecross and the Melville Marlins while Triton remained the only team to win each of their opening three matches.
Beatty Park hosted its first match of the 2018-19 Women’s A-Grade season on Saturday and it saw Triton continue its undefeated start with a 10-6 victory over the UWA Rangers.
The other two Round 3 Women’s A-Grade matches took place on Saturday at Bicton Pool and that saw a massive 31-3 win for Applecross against Dolphins while the Melville Marlins defeated UWA City Beach 14-4.
The Round 3 results leave Triton with a perfect 3-0 record in the Women’s A-Grade competition ahead of Melville Marlins and Applecross who both have two wins and a draw from the opening three games of the season.
UWA City Beach have one win and two losses from the first two games while Dolphins and UWA Rangers have lost each of their opening three matches.
The Round 3 Women’s A-Grade action got underway on Saturday at Beatty Park with Triton taking on UWA Rangers.
Rangers scored first thanks to Tayla Walsh in an eventful opening period that consisted of seven goals ending up with Triton leading 4-3 at quarter-time after a penalty conversion on the buzzer from Jamie Oberman.
Triton still led 5-4 at half-time and had extended that edge to 7-5 during the third quarter but Rangers had cut the lead back to one again by three quarter-time with a goal to Walsh.
It was all Triton in the fourth period, though, as they scored the only three goals to win 10-6 to remain undefeated on the season.
Claire Whitaker scored three goals for Triton, Adelaide Garland two, Heather Laird two and Erin Gray two.
Tayla Walsh finished with three goals for Rangers and Madi Rigo two.
Whitaker received the three votes, Walsh two and Rangers ‘keeper Tess Hosking one.
There were then two matches at Bicton Pool starting with Dolphins taking on Applecross.
It was a dominant showing from Applecross who piled on the goals with seven goals to nil in the opening quarter, six to nil in the second, eight to two in the third and 10 to one in the last to end up winning 31-3.
Luci Marsh finished with seven goals for Applecross, Kelly Parks six, Brooke Pensini six, Fanny Valyi six, Sarah Leavy two and Ella McFerran two.
Gabbie Wikman, Sharon Colliss and Georgie Power were the scorers of the three goals for Dolphins.
The round then concluded also at Bicton Pool with the Melville Marlins hosting UWA City Beach.
It was an impressive start by the visitors with City beach leading 3-2 by quarter-time but the Marlins controlled the contest from there with four goals to one in the second period, two to nil in the third and six to nil in the fourth to end up winning 14-4.
Erin Redbond scored four goals for the Marlins, Caitlin Read three, Chloe Nella two, Madeleine Quinn two and Stella Watson two. Glenda Morgan and Pippa Pedley scored two goals each for UWA City Beach.
