ROUND 2 of the Men’s A-Grade competition saw a big win for Port Colts with South Fremantle Bloods also winning in the Fremantle Conference while Triton and UWA Flotsam triumphed in the UWA Conference.
It was the second round of the Men’s A-Grade competition for the 2018-19 season with the eight teams all taking part in games against teams inside their own conferences for the second consecutive week.
In the Fremantle Conference at Bicton Pool, that saw the Port Colts defeat Dolphins 19-2 while the South Fremantle Bloods beat the Melville Sharks 9-7.
Those results leave the Port Colts undefeated with a 2-0 record after two rounds with the South Fremantle Bloods and Melville Sharks both 1-1, and the Dolphins 0-2.
And in the UWA Conference at HBF Stadium, Triton defeated UWA City Beach 5-3 and UWA Flotsam beating UWA Rangers 14-0.
Those results mean that UWA Flotsam and Triton have won their opening two games for the season while City Beach and Rangers have lost their first two.
The Round 2 action on Saturday at Bicton Pool got underway with Dolphins playing Port Colts.
It was a dominant showing from Port Colts with the 19-2 victory as Tom Prior scored seven goals, Cody Smith four, Michael Altieri two, Jordan Kremers-Taylor two and Elijah Neesham two.
The second game at Bicton Pool then featured the South Fremantle Bloods against Melville Sharks.
There were just the two goals in the first quarter and both went the way of the Sharks through Ben Kullack and Toby Muir.
The Bloods scored the first two goals then of the second quarter thanks to Will McKay and Alistair Bruce, but the Sharks scored last in the half to lead 3-2 by half-time.
Things remained tight with the Sharks leading 6-5 at three quarter-time but it was a dominant fourth period from the Bloods with four goals to one to see them take away the 9-7 victory.
Will McKay finished with four goals for the Bloods, Alistair Bruce two and Alex Gunnell two. Toby Muir and Ben Kullack hit two goals each for the Sharks.
McKay received the three votes, Nick Redbond of the Sharks two and Petar Tomasevic of Bloods one.
The first game in the Men’s A-Grade action on Saturday at HBF Stadium saw Triton take on UWA City Beach.
It was a goalless opening quarter with the first goal of the game coming courtesy of City Beach with five minutes left in the second period, a penalty from Sam Rowbottam.
Triton answered shortly after thanks to Lewis Putt and they then went ahead with another to Matt Oberman.
But City Beach ended the half with the next two goals from Lachie Emanuel to see them lead 3-2 at half-time.
Triton hit the only two goals of the third quarter to lead 4-3 by three quarter-time and then with the only goal of the fourth period they went on to win 5-3.
Lewis Putt scored two goals for Triton with Lachie Emanuel scoring twice for UWA City Beach.
Triton’s goalkeeper Luke Quinlivan received the three votes, Brett McGhie the two and City Beach’s Matthew Murphy one.
The second game at HBF Stadium then featured two UWA teams with Flotsam playing Rangers.
It was a flying start for Flotsam with the opening three goals of the first quarter. They went on to add four more in the second quarter, two in the third and five in the fourth to claim the 14-0 victory.
Nick Hughes scored four goals for Flotsam, Matt Simich two, Andrew Ford two and Drew Lilleyman two.
Hughes received the three votes, Ford two and Harry Konowalous one.
