THE 2017-18 Women’s Premier League season will undergo a first this Saturday with teams from the Fremantle and UWA Conference doings battle with one another with two matches at Bicton Pool and one at HBF Stadium.

Following three rounds to open the 2017-18 Women’s Premier League season that saw the teams in the respective Fremantle and UWA Conference play another, this Saturday will see them take on a rival from the other Conference for the first time in the new-look competition.

The first round of the Cross Conference match ups begin at Bicton Pool at 1.15pm with the Melville Marlins taking on Triton. Following that at 2.30pm will see Applecross play the UWA City Beach Blues.

Meanwhile at HBF Stadium at 1.15pm, the UWA City Beach Rangers will take on Dolphins.

The North Coast Phoenix have the bye with just the three teams competing this season in the UWA Conference.

All three matches should prove to be fascinating as well as the battle of superiority begins between the Fremantle and UWA Conferences.

First at Bicton Pool, it’s the Melville Marlins facing Triton. The Marlins come into the contest having drawn their past two matches in the Fremantle Conference against Applecross and the North Coast Phoenix.

Triton, meanwhile, is undefeated in the UWA Conference having defeated both UWA City Beach teams to date.

That sets the stage for a tremendous contest between Melville and Triton to get things underway at Bicton Pool on Saturday.

With the Marlins possessing attacking threats like Erin Redbond, Zoe Arancini, Chloe Nella, Luci Marsh and Olivia Simes, and Triton having now been strengthened with the likes of Millie Martino, Caitlin Read, Erin Gray and Jenna Sanders, it should be an exciting affair.

The second Women’s Cross Conference match up for the afternoon at Bicton Pool will then pit Applecross up against the UWA City Beach Blues.

Applecross enters the contest following an undefeated first three rounds in the Fremantle Conference beating North Coast and Dolphins, and drawing with the Marlins.

UWA City Beach has played twice in the UWA Conference so far suffering a loss to Triton and beating Rangers.

The Blues will need to be on top of their game to challenge an Applecross team featuring players such as Kelly Parks, Sofia Chaves, Lara Zimmerman, Sarah Leavy, Ebony Brown, Bronte Barber, Brooke Pensini, Kate Abbey-Wardale and Gaby French.

But they aren’t lacking talent themselves with scoring weapons such as Ella Fracaro, Pippa Pedley, Riley Davidson and Glenda Morgan.

The other Cross Conference Women’s Premier League fixture takes place at HBF Stadium between Rangers and Dolphins.

Rangers comes into the game having lost their two UWA Conference match ups to Triton and UWA City Beach while Dolphins are also winless from three games in the Fremantle Conference against Applecross, Melville and North Coast.

The winner on Saturday will get a confidence-boost from their first victory of the season while it will be a tough one to swallow for the loser.
